Sleep anxiety or anxiety when sleeping is a condition that can cause feelings of worry and fear when trying to sleep, affecting the overall quality of rest and health. Long-term sleep anxiety can lead to serious health complications such as a higher risk of heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, stroke, obesity, and arrhythmia.

Managing sleep anxiety involves psychotherapy as the primary approach, with doctors prescribing medications in some cases to help control anxiety. Self-care strategies include establishing healthy sleep habits, maintaining a regular exercise routine, and utilizing relaxation techniques like deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, or guided imagery to calm the mind before bedtime. If sleep anxiety persists or worsens, seeking professional healthcare advice is recommended to receive proper treatment.
