Prabowo Criticizes Removal of SOE Bonuses: A Strategic Move

President Prabowo Subianto recently made significant changes to the bonus scheme and management structure of state-owned enterprises (SOEs). He highlighted the elimination of the profit-sharing bonus known as tantiem for commissioners and directors of loss-making SOEs. Prabowo emphasized his disbelief in the absurd practices surrounding tantiem, stating that some SOE commissioners received hefty bonuses despite minimal attendance at meetings. He also mentioned the excessive number of commissioners in some of these companies, leading to his decision to reduce the maximum number of commissioners by half.

During the presentation of the 2026 State Budget Bill, Prabowo emphasized the importance of efficient and transparent government spending. He stressed the need to safeguard public funds and ensure that every rupiah spent delivers tangible benefits to the people. Additionally, Prabowo highlighted the role of the Danantara Investment Authority in overseeing the management of SOEs and cracking down on wasteful operational spending.

Prabowo’s actions signified a commitment to improving the quality of state spending, enhancing efficiency, and promoting transparency in the management of public funds. By addressing issues related to bonuses and management structures within SOEs, Prabowo aimed to strengthen accountability and ensure that government spending generates meaningful outcomes for the Indonesian people.
