Two high school students from Papua expressed their pride and excitement in being selected as members of the prestigious Pasukan Pengibar Bendera Pusaka (Paskibraka) during Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day celebration at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta alongside President Prabowo Subianto. Representing Papua Pegunungan Province is Franciscus Sakfiris Pahabolisage from SMA Negeri 1 Wamena, while Stincek Laramiapa represents Papua Tengah Province from SMA Negeri 1 Nabire. Both students were thrilled to participate in this momentous event, with Franciscus expressing his gratitude for the opportunity and Stincek committing to giving her best performance before the President and the nation.
The selection process for Paskibraka involved rigorous training at the district, provincial, and national levels, with challenges such as physical training posing obstacles for the students. Despite initial doubts, both Franciscus and Stincek are proud to have made it to the national level and have formed strong bonds with their fellow team members from all 38 provinces. Stincek emphasized the importance of unity, teamwork, and camaraderie, stating that while nerves are present, the joy and excitement of the moment outweigh any apprehension. The students are honored to have earned this opportunity through their hard work and dedication, and are looking forward to raising the national flag with pride on August 17th.
