In August 13, 2025, the deep connection that President Prabowo Subianto has with farmers was highlighted by Dedek Prayudi from the Presidential Communication Office. Prayudi, also known as Uki, mentioned two significant moments in Prabowo’s life that strengthened this bond. The first was when Prabowo was a military officer and received assistance from local communities and farmers. The second was during his leadership of the Indonesian Farmers Harmony Association (HKTI).
This sentiment was expressed during the grand corn harvest event for the Food Security Program in Jenggalu Village, Seluma Regency, Bengkulu Province. Uki emphasized the importance of the food security program, especially in light of global circumstances that call for Indonesia to lessen its dependency on foreign food sources. If major food-producing countries like India, Brazil, and China were to stop exporting, it would lead to a spike in global food prices, affecting Indonesia as well.
The event showcased a corn harvest of about 10 tons from 1.5 hectares, with Uki highlighting that government support in the form of subsidized fertilizers, pesticides, and agricultural machinery has been crucial. He encouraged the village head of Jenggalu to streamline administrative processes for farmers to access subsidized fertilizers more efficiently. This is essential as only 47 percent of the subsidized fertilizer allocation has been utilized as of August. The aim is not just to increase production capacity but also to ensure the happiness and motivation of farmers.
Kelik Budianan from the Food Data and Information Center at the National Food Agency expressed support for President Prabowo’s initiative. Collaboration with the State Logistics Agency (Bulog) is underway to procure farmers’ corn harvests. Efforts are also being made to integrate the supply chains of farmers and livestock breeders to benefit from favorable crop prices that would also impact feed costs and livestock prices positively. This was discussed in the presence of local officials and representatives from relevant organizations in Jenggalu Village.
