Prabowo’s Kopdes Merah Putih: Boosting Village Economies

President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to inaugurate the Koperasi Desa/Kelurahan Merah Putih (Village/Urban Cooperative “Merah Putih”) on July 21, 2025. This initiative is part of the President’s sixth Asta Cita (Visionary Aspiration), aimed at revitalizing local economies and initiating poverty alleviation from the village level. Kopdes Merah Putih is one of three core strategies, known as the “trident of poverty eradication”, introduced under President Prabowo’s administration. This trident includes health, education, and socio-economic development as its key pillars. The Kopdes Merah Putih program, launched through Presidential Instruction No. 9 of 2025, seeks to build the national economy from the village level upward, aiming to reduce inequality and emancipate communities from poverty. The initiative involves thirteen ministries, two national agencies, governors, mayors, regents, and village heads across Indonesia. With the goal of reducing poverty, the program aims to address limited public access to essential services by providing tangible benefits to local communities. The establishment of 80,000 Kopdes Merah Putih institutions is set for July 21, with 103 cooperatives designated as model prototypes. These pilot units will be observed for operational success and replicated across other villages. The program adopts an inclusive, modern, and community-driven approach to strengthen rural economies, improve food security, and eliminate exploitative practices in the agricultural sector. Through the development of new cooperatives, expansion of existing ones, and revitalization of underperforming cooperatives, Kopdes Merah Putih aims to provide access to essential goods, secure loans, healthcare services, and efficient logistics for rural communities.
