President Prabowo Subianto has reiterated the Indonesian government’s careful considerations before engaging in negotiations with the United States to reduce import tariffs. Emphasizing the importance of protecting the nation’s workers, Prabowo stated that ensuring the interests of the Indonesian people was the primary focus during the talks. Despite facing challenges, Indonesia maintained a steadfast position throughout the negotiations, with a firm commitment to safeguarding workers. Prabowo highlighted the country’s robust and resilient economy, well-equipped to navigate global uncertainties and trade tensions. Describing the negotiations as tough yet productive, Prabowo noted the mutual understanding achieved between both parties, leading to a tariff reduction from 32% to 19%. President Trump also confirmed a trade agreement with Indonesia, signaling a cut in tariffs on Indonesian goods. This development underlines the government’s dedication to protecting workers and prioritizing the welfare of its citizens in international trade discussions.
