President Prabowo Subianto recently disclosed that he engaged in direct discussions with U.S. President Donald Trump concerning trade tariffs, characterizing the negotiations as challenging yet successful. “I had a conversation with President Donald Trump. Alhamdulillah (thank God), despite the tough negotiations, we managed to reach an agreement,” Prabowo shared last Wednesday at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base in Jakarta. Both parties demonstrated a mutual understanding of each other’s national interests during the talks, resulting in the United States agreeing to reduce import tariffs on Indonesian goods from 32% to 19%. Prabowo highlighted the meticulous calculation by the Indonesian government throughout the negotiation process, with a strong emphasis on safeguarding the interests of the public and domestic workers. He reiterated the importance of protecting Indonesian workers and maintaining a firm stance to ensure their security. Prabowo expressed confidence in Indonesia’s economic resilience amidst global uncertainties, stating, “I remain very optimistic. Our economy is sturdy and well-positioned, and we will endure challenges.” Additionally, Prabowo hinted at a potential visit to the United States later this year, with a lighthearted comment about playing golf with President Trump if invited.
