EU Visa access for Indonesians improved after Prabowo’s Brussels visit

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has announced a new visa policy that will make it easier for Indonesian citizens to enter the European Union. This new policy allows Indonesians making their second visit to the EU to be eligible for a multi-entry Schengen visa. The announcement was made during a joint press conference with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto at the Berlaymont Building in Brussels on Sunday afternoon. Von der Leyen emphasized that the visa policy aims to deepen long-term ties between the people of Indonesia and the EU, particularly in areas such as education, investment, and social exchange.

This policy is part of the people-to-people connections pillar in the EU–Indonesia strategic partnership, building bridges between the two peoples. President Prabowo welcomed the deepening of EU–Indonesia ties, highlighting the importance of trust and shared values in long-term relationships. He expressed Indonesia’s view of Europe as a leader in modern life and a vital player in maintaining global stability.

Prabowo also emphasized the partnership’s extension beyond trade and economics, encompassing shared values, solidarity, and a common vision for the future. He expressed hope for the finalization and signing of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) in Brussels and joked about holding the signing ceremony in the city. With this new visa policy and a strengthened economic partnership, Indonesia and the European Union are embarking on a new chapter in their bilateral relations focused on openness, cooperation, and mutual benefits for citizens on both sides.
